Damn Diet...

Christmas time is upon us and I'm jonesing for some gingerbread cookies, but if I make gingerbread cookies, I'll eat gingerbread cookies. Then I might as well just go wash back a Big Mac with an Egg Nog milkshake and top it off with a gallon of Coke. Stupid Holidays with all their stupid temptations...

Currently back down to 285 after ballooning up some for my birthday. 35 more pounds until they'll let me jump out of an airplane.

Diet Update

It's been a while since I posted about the diet. All is still going well, the only junk food I really get cravings for is pizza, but so far I've managed to resist them. I was frustrated that I hadn't lost so much as a single pound for 2 weeks after my last post, but this week I got on the scale and 5 pounds had mysteriously vanished since last week. For those of you keeping score at home that puts me down to 301 lbs.

Diet Update: Finally

I can finally keep accurate tabs on my weight loss because my scale now seems to work. I stepped on it this morning and it now has a number on it instead of saying "Go away, fatty". So I now officially know that I weigh 307 lbs, I started my diet 6.5 weeks ago weighing ~330 lbs and I'd like to lose another 57 lbs. Watch this space for further updates.

Diet update: Day ??

I forget how many days it's been since I started the diet, 6 weeks or so I think. I think I've lost about 20 pounds but without a scale that can give me an accurate reading of my mass it's hard to know for certain. I do feel a lot better as of late, not so many creaks and pops when I stand up and such and I do seem to have a little more energy. I haven't been exercising enough (well really much at all) the last couple of weeks, something I'll need to rectify. I have managed to not stray from the diet at all which is of course the main thing (except for the trip to the fair). Now if only I could make the last few pounds go away so my scale would work it would be much less frustrating weighing myself.

Another Diet Update

The scale still isn't working for me, but I do feel lighter. I don't seem to creak and moan as much when I get up in the morning and I think I'm feeling healthier. The diet did go out the window for a few hours over the weekend, because we just couldn't not go to the fair. We were much better than we usually are at the fair this year. I had one souvlaki instead of my usual 3, half a bag of mini donuts instead of my usual 3, half an elephant ear instead of 1 of my own, a smoked meat sandwich instead of a greasy fried burger or pizza slice and 1 root beer instead of the usual 3 or 4. All in all not too horrible of a stray from the diet.

Diet update: Come on you stupid scale...

Damn thing stilll won't give me a reading. Haven't had any junk food whatsoever in over 3 weeks. Took a 6Km walk on Wednesday and a 5Km walk on Sunday. Managed to do 75 situps this morning.

Diet: Day 17 - I want a slice of pizza

I do, I really really do. I'm not going to have one, but I'd really like to. The scale still runs in fear of me, but I did manage to do 50 situps yesterday and sixty today, I'll attempt 75 tomorrow. Stupid Buffalo Days is coming next week and I don't know what to do. I've been so good at sticking to my diet, but the food at the fair isn't exactly healthy. As if to mock me, the fair hasn't featured any good entertainment in 4 or 5 years and Wednesday night they have an excellent pairing of Captain Tractor and Spirit of the West on the grandstand.

Diet Update: 2 weeks down...

Still no love from the scale, but I've still managed to stick to the plan completely. Ordered in food for the first time last night, Chinese, it was basically all the same stuff I would have stir fried myself but I didn't have to cook. Yesterday I found out that going to the movies when you aren't eating junk food sucks, not a lot of healthy choices at the snack counter. Luckily we were at the Galaxy which has a Yogen Fruz so I got a fat free strawberry/banana/pineapple smoothie.

Diet Update: 1 week down...

Only one minor slip up so far, the bill came at the restaurant the other night and I instinctively grabbed one of the mints and ate it, oops. The scale still doesn't work for me but I think I'm getting close, I only have to push up very slightly on the chair next to it to get a reading, so maybe late this coming week I'll be able to stand on it and get an actual reading. I never did get the caffeine withdrawal headaches I've heard peoples horror stories about and so far I haven't had any really uncontrollable cravings for junk food, but if the temperature stays above 30 much longer Ice Cream will be hard to resist.

Diet: Days 3&4

I have still managed to stick to the plan, haven't had anything that even resembles junk food in 4 days. The scale still doesn't like me. Had my first restaurant meal of the week today, a steak pita and a bottle of water, it was tasty and I didn't have to cook it. I need to exercise still, I tried doing some sit-ups when I got home from work the other day but I was tired and my big fat gut wasn't helping matters either, I think I'm going to have to walk off the first 30 pounds or so.

Diet: Day 2

Still have managed to not eat anything I'm not supposed to. Haven't gotten any of the expected headaches from caffeine withdrawal so it seems entirely possible that I can't become addicted to caffeine. Had some yogurt for breakfast instead of my normal plate-sized cinnamon bun slathered in butter with a half liter of chocolate milk. The scale still screams in pain when I stand on it. Tonight should be easier at work because I remembered to bring a snack (mmmmm dried apricots), nothing in the vending machine is even remotely close to healthy.

Diet: Day 1

So far so good, managed to get through an entire day without cheating. Had a Lemon Chicken Stir Fry for supper on a bed of rice (simultaneously breaking in my new wok and rice cooker). I modified the recipe by using olive oil instead of peanut oil and I didn't slice my chicken nearly as finely as the recipe called for. It was quite tasty, but next time I think I'll throw some onions or peppers in it.

The first setback of the diet plan occurred when I tried to weigh myself. The scale I bought maxes out at 300 pounds and apparently I've gotten fatter than that. So weight loss goal number one is to not have the scale read "ERROR" when I stand on it.

Anyone have some good reasonably healthy recipes to share that don't involve fish?

Enough!

I'm getting old. I don' think I'm old, but I feel old some days. I get tired easily, my knees hurt, I can't get enough sleep, walking up the 3 flights of stairs to my apartment leaves me breathing way harder than it should. I have high blood pressure. Doctors won't believe me when I tell them I'm not diabetic (and I have no desire to become diabetic). I'm a mess. Well enough is enough. I'm going mental for the rest of the week chowing down on my favourite junk foods and then the diet starts on Sunday. I bought a wok on the weekend so I can cook up stirfrys and on payday I'm going to go buy a rice cooker and a scale. The following foods will be completely off limits until I lose at least 40 pounds:
  • Fast Food Burgers
  • Pizza
  • Chocolate
  • Potato Chips
  • Soda Pop (including slurpees)
  • Ice Cream
  • Cakes and Pies
  • Coffee
  • Donuts
  • Candy
  • Cinnamon Buns (my breakfast of choice :( )
  • Anything Deep Fried (yes including french fries)
  • Milk (as a drink)

Yep it will be yogurt and stirfrys for me for a few months anyway. I'm also banning myself from using the car to get anywhere closer than 2km from my apartment and will be doing sit ups daily trying to get rid of this giant spare tire I'm carrying around.
